Practical Life Videos

Here are some videos to help with the new material on the practical life shelf.

Stick weaving is an art that is thought to have been brought to Europe by the Crusaders.  This art form was used by Early Americans settlers. It is both easy and fun to do!

Marlinspike is the art of knot tying.  It is a craft used by sailors, fishermen, and boaters alike.  These individuals use the knots to tie boats up to piers, tow cargo, and/or bait hooks.  Tying knots and working with rope, called a line, requires skill learned over time and with much practice.  Many practice blindfolded in order to improve and perfect their knot-tying skills as it is essential to a boater's safety.

For additional practice, check out this website with an index of knots and animations as to how to tie them.
